Award Winning

Schools and Nurseries

Bocketts Farm has been welcoming schools and conducting educational visits since we opened in 1992. On our 2016 Schools Satisfaction Survey, 97% rated the 'Overall Experience' category as 'Excellent'.

The following is a typical itinerary of your school visit:

  • On arrival, you will be greeted by your team leader and shown to your designated undercover area. Yes! Every school group is given their own individual undercover area so you can enjoy your visit whatever the weather.
  • The whole group will then be given a health and safety briefing and the structure and timings of the day will be explained.
  • The day’s activities will include:
    (in no particular order)
  • A Goat Milking session (Reception years and older only, unless requested)
  • A Tractor and Trailer Ride - lots of animals to see along the way and often great views of London!
  • A tour of the farm by your team leader (Reception years and older only, unless requested)
  • Pig Racing - not to be missed!
  • Lunch
  • Free Time - an opportunity to visit the animals again or play

Generally, most groups aim to arrive at 10am and depart by 2pm.

Spring and Autumn terms are the quietest times to visit. For the summer term try to book before March to ensure the date you want. We do become fully booked quickly.

Teachers are welcome to come to the farm prior to their visit, free of charge, for the purpose of carrying out risk assessments. Please ring us to let us know who is coming and when.

Health & Safety

Whilst visiting Bocketts is an enjoyable and educational experience, like all farms, it is not one completely free of risks. We have in place a fully comprehensive Health and Safety Policy, with over 200 risk and COSHH assessments, comprehensive staff induction and training programmes, and documented inspection and maintenance schedules.

Whilst we cannot do your risk assessments for you, the following is a list of the main hazards we have identified in our own risk assessments, which your children may encounter on their visit:

  • Unsupervised children
  • Uneven ground surfaces and flints
  • Moving vehicles and tractors
  • Fences and gates which are dangerous if climbed upon
  • Animals with sharp teeth and some with horns
  • Dogs/cats
  • Ponds
  • Infection from animals and their manure

All of these are covered in our Safety Talk (given to the children, parents and teachers on arrival) a script of which is included in your booking confirmation. Teachers should pay special attention to the notes about handwashing.
